Student Receptionists of the Week
“Schools are being urged to increase the prominence of employability skills in and out of lessons. Skills such as taking a phone message or writing a brief report are vital for the workplace, says the UK Commission for Employment and Skills”. Read more at its website: www.ukces.org.uk
As part of their Social Skill development programme our Year 8 students take it in turns to be our Student Receptionists for the day.
This is a great learning experience as it helps to build their confidence and self esteem.
The work of a Student Receptionist is very varied. Some days are busy and some are quiet so they never know quite what to expect!
They work in pairs carrying out a variety of duties during the day which include:
- Meeting and greeting our visitors
- Delivering messages to classrooms for teachers or students
- Helping to recycle waste paper
- Collecting work for students who are absent from school
- Helping to keep our site clean and tidy
Our Year 8 students carry out this role brilliantly. They are great ambassadors for our school.
Students have said they enjoy the day and learn a lot.
A Record of Achievement is completed by the students at the end of the day and additional comments are added by the School Office Receptionist and the Head Teacher. This is then returned to the student to file in their Certificates folder that they should be keeping at home.
Students who have done the job really well are awarded a special certificate by the Headteacher for being ‘Student Receptionists of the Week’
